Biodiversity Report 2025

Under Section 6 of the Environment (Wales) Act 2016, all public authorities that exercise functions in Wales — including town and community councils — are legally required to take action to maintain and enhance biodiversity and promote the resilience of ecosystems.

To ensure transparency and accountability in complying with this statutory duty, the Act also requires public authorities to publish a report every three years on what they have done to meet these obligations. This periodic reporting enables the Council to demonstrate how it has fulfilled its biodiversity duty, share progress with the community, and support collective efforts to protect and enhance our natural environment.

Briton Ferry Town Council’s Biodiversity Report highlights the state of local wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems. It aims to inform residents and stakeholders about our natural environment, identify key challenges, and outline actions to protect and enhance biodiversity. This report reflects the Council’s commitment to maintaining a sustainable and resilient community for present and future generations, and we hope you enjoy reading it.

The Council welcomes input from members of the public regarding local biodiversity. If you would like to discuss the report, share observations, or propose suggestions on how the Council can further contribute to protecting and enhancing our natural environment, please contact us. Your insights and involvement play a valuable role in helping the Council take meaningful action to support biodiversity in our community.
