Payments To Town Councillors

Members of Briton Ferry Town Council are in accordance with regulations issued by the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales entitled to receive an allowance of £150.00 per-annum towards the incidental expenses of being a Town Councillor, see below:

IRPW Determination 42: All community and town councils must make available a payment to each of their members of £150 per year as a contribution to costs and expenses.

In past years all Members have declined the receipt of this payment, currently members are in the process of declining the payment for the current year.

In addition Members are entitled to claim Mileage Expenses  in relation to the attendance at authorised meeting outside the Town Council’s area, these expenses are paid at £0.45 per mile.

The Town Mayor is entitled to receive an allowance to defray the expense of carrying out his duties, Briton Ferry Town Councils Mayors Allowance is £500.00.

At the end of the Financial year the Council has to submit a return to the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales certifying the amounts paid to Members during that year, this return has to be and is published on the Town Councils website, it also forms part of the Final Accounts of the Town Council.

Any Member of the Town Council who is a Member of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council may receive payments from that authority, the Town Council cannot make any comment thereto as that is a matter for Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
