Ysgol Tyle’r Ynn Crocus Planting at Jersey Park

Today, Year 5 pupils from  Ysgol Tyle’r Ynn, planted purple crocus bulbs in Jersey Park. This was done in partnership with Neath Rotary Club and the Friends of Jersey Park.  Dr Bryn John, President of Neath Rotary Club, said that planting the crocus bulbs is in recognition of the successful work of Rotary International, who since 1979, have spent over 2.1 billion dollars on vaccinating 3 billion children in 122 countries to protect them from contracting Polio.  As a result of this, Polio which is a devastating disease that causes paralysis, is eradicated from all but two countries which are , Afghanistan and Pakistan.   However, he warns, it is crucial to continue to keep the vaccination programme going otherwise within 10 years, Polio could affect as many as 200,000 children each year.

The Pupils really enjoyed planting the crocuses and being close to nature.  Well done everyone!!!
